Abstract

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of pressing at Zok-SamLi(ST-36) and Sa-Gwan(Li-4, Liv-3) with Si-acupuncture on symptom decrease of dyspepsia for elementary school children.

Methods : This study was a quasi experimental, nonequivalent control group pre-test and post test design.. The participants were the children who were suffering for dyspepsia of D, M, N elementary school in Ulsan from April 1, to May 30, 2003. The 35 children of D elementary school were experimental group who were applied to press at Zok-Sam-Li and Sa-Gwan with Si-acupuncture, while the 35 children of M, N elementary school were control group to whom digestive was applied. The instruments were the Si-acupuncture and symptom of dyspepsia scale developed by the Korean society of gastrointestinal motility, which modified by the authors. Data were analyzed as frequency, percentage, z¢¥-test, independent t-test using SPSS 10.0 WIN Program.

Results : Hypothesis that relieving of dyspepsia symptom was who were pressed at ZokSam-Li and Sa-Gwan with Si-acupuncture was probably more effective than children who were dosed digestive was supported. In symptom of dyspepsia after 40 minutes, the average for experiment was 2.89, for control group was 3.83. There was a significant difference (t=6.317, p=0.000). After 80 minutes, the average for experiment was 1.97, for control group was 3.29. There was a significant difference(t=10.653, p=0.000). After 120 minutes, the average for experiment was 1.26, for control group was 2.83.

There was a significant difference (t=11.648, p=0.000). On the basis of the result, hypothesis of this study was supported.

Conclusions : It was verified that the pressing at Zok-Sam-Li and Sa-Gwan with Si-acupuncture was effective in decreasing the symptom of dyspepsia.
